Member Benefits1. NLDA is the only national non-profit organization which represents children and adults with non-verbal learning disorders. The members of the NLDA are actively committed to fostering education, research and advocacy on behalf of those diagnosed with NLD and those who live with them, love them, and treat them. 2. The NLDA uses profits from membership and conferences, after operating expenses are covered, to publish both scholarly and informational material designed to broaden awareness in the general community about NLD and its complex ramifications. 3. New members receive a membership packet which serves as an important introduction to NLD for families newly diagnosed, as well as a quarterly newsletter which attempts to bring timely issues on research and intervention to the forefront. 4. Members receive advance notification of national symposia and conferences. 5. Membership in NLDA gives members immediate access to the NLDA family, the only group of instantly adopted relatives who truly understand what your life is like, and who openly offer tried and true suggestions to help make it better. 6. The NLDA website is being designed according to feedback from members. To the best of our abilities, and the talents of our generous volunteers, we will continue to change its features according to your needs. 7. Among the goals of the NLDA is to have this complex disorder defined and recognized as a discrete entity in a future publication of the DSM. We need the support of the entire population of those affected by NLD in order to support us in this mission. As a large, united membership, we have a chance to make incredible strides for future education, research and intervention. 8. Members are eligible to participate in our network of national NLDA support groups, which bring ongoing information to groups meeting in different venues from coast to coast. The structure of each group is defined by its members, but all groups uphold our founding vision of support, hope, affirmation, resources and encouragement. 9. By volunteering to work actively for the NLDA, all board members and other officers with special knowledge agree implicitly to make themselves available to members in crisis as well as to members who need any information related to NLD. 10. If you have a child with NLD, if you are an adult with NLD, if you are a health care provider who treats people with NLD, if you are a researcher dealing with the exciting new breakthroughs in modern neurology, or if you are simply a decent human being who believes that everyone should have a chance for an independent and productive life, then you probably can't even sleep at night if you know you haven't sent in your dues!
