Drinking warm milk with melted butter also has a beneficial influence on the bowel movement. Every day before going to bed heat a glass of milk and add a teaspoon of butter. For a sweeter flavour, you can add a teaspoon of organic honey. Drink it and let it work overnight. It will stimulate the bowels once you wake up.
Many people know how fast spicy foods can stimulate the bowel movement. Cayenne pepper is one of the products that may help you cleanse the colon, but you need to make sure you do it right. A very high intake of cayenne pepper is not recommended, unless – due to cultural and regional cuisine – you are already accustomed to very spicy food.
You can add a dash of cayenne pepper to your dishes to let it stimulate your digestive system slightly and once a week you can prepare a mixture of ½ spoon of cayenne pepper, a teaspoon of organic maple syrup, a glass of lukewarm water and two tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice. Once you drink it, the mixture can give you a burning sensation, so have a tablespoon of honey prepared to coat your stomach. Depending on the sensitivity of your stomach, this may or may not give you instant results, which means there is a chance you will get diarrhoea. In that case, it is very important that you catch up on the liquids and drink a few glasses of water to make sure you stay hydrated.
Senna pods and leaves, as well as senna supplements, are widely available in health food stores and pharmacies. They have laxative properties and are usually used for making infusions that stimulate the bowel movement. You can either get some herbal tea with senna, which is sold in the form of handy bags or you can crush some dried leaves and pods of the plant, put it into a cup and pour some hot, but not boiling water over it. Leave it to steep for 10 minutes and pour it into another cup, filtering the infusion through a sieve or a coffee filter. It is important that you filter it very well since the resin of the plant can cause stomach cramps when taken in a bigger amount. The laxative properties of senna are strong enough to wake up the digestive system almost instantly so you don’t want any extra surprises.
Nature has given us a solution to every problem, including a slow-working colon. There is a wide variety of herbs that can promote more effective bowel movement and the majority of them are easily available in health food stores or online. The most popular ones are psyllium, fennel and barberry. All of them have gentle laxative properties and can be taken either in the form of herbal teas or as a powder. The best thing about using herbs as an aid for cleansing the colon is the fact that they produce no side effects. Fennel is even known to be so effective and gentle at the same time that it has become a very popular remedy for digestive ailments in babies.
Bentonite is an aluminium phyllosilicate clay. It has a wide range of uses due to its various properties. In medicine, it has become a common ingredient in laxative products due to the absorbing properties. You can buy bentonite powder in every pharmacy and many health food stores. Mix a teaspoon of bentonite powder with a glass of water. Drink it and follow with another glass of water or juice. The more liquids you take in after you drink the bentonite solution, the better, as it will dissolve faster and will absorb more water, which will make it more effective by the time it reaches the colon. For best results you can combine this treatment with psyllium husk since it turns into a slippery gelatin in the stomach once it mixes with water and facilitates the passage of the matter in the intestines.
This treatment combines three fruits – Amalaki, Haritaki and Bhibitaki – and has its origins in Ayurvedic medicine. The mix is available in some health food stores and in online Ayurvedic shops. The mix contains bioflavonoids, vitamin C, phospholipids and natural laxatives and regular intake guarantees healthy colon cleansing with no side effects.
Castor oil flush has been used for many years in the colon cleansing treatment. Since it’s very effective and almost always causes diarrhoea, it shouldn’t be used more than once a month. Otherwise, it may flush out not only the toxins and the undigested matter but also the beneficial bacteria existing in the colon.
