If additionally you have flatfoot or you wear tight-fitting shoes, you probably put too much pressure on the joint at the base of your big toe. As a result, the big toe starts to bend in toward the smaller toes.
What’s worse, a bunion can also influence other toes as there is a pressure from the big toe to your other toes. Consequently, bunions may lead to hammer toes, corns or calluses, and ingrown nails. Also, there is a higher risk of developing osteoarthritis in the big toe joint.
Bunions sometimes don’t cause any symptoms and if they do, they develop gradually. If you struggle with bunions, for sure you feel that the metatarsophalangeal joint at the base of your big toe is swollen and enlarged.
The big toe is often displaced in the direction of the other toes. The affected joint might also be reddish, the skin around the bunion may be irritated and you can experience the joint stiffness and pain.
Bunions are sometimes mistaken with the symptoms of gout, which is another unpleasant condition of our feet. Gout, however, doesn’t tend to deform your joints and the pain is more sudden and severe as well as it often occurs in episodes while bunion pain is not so strong, but it occurs constantly.

If you deal with bunions, you can, of course, decide to eliminate them by surgical operation, which is an effective, but also the most invasive method. Thus, have a look at some natural ways of getting rid of bunions quickly as it may turn out that once you try them, you won’t need a surgery.
1. Change Your Shoes
Bad shoes are often the main reason why people get bunions. Every time you wear shoes that don’t fit well, the blood flow is disturbed and the synovial fluid can’t flow through your bones properly.
Therefore, always buy the right size of your shoes. If you feel that they are too small, just throw them away. If your feet are wide, it’s sometimes difficult to find the right shoes. Then you should consider having them made at a shoemaker.
If you are keen on high heels, let your feet rest from time to time as they may cause more pain and prevent the bunions from curing. Whenever possible switch to more comfortable shoes.
Be aware that even athletic shoes may worsen the problem of bunions if they don’t fit well or are poor quality. Always choose shoes with good padding and arches. When you try on new shoes, remember that your big toe shouldn’t touch the end of your shoe.
