How to Get Rid of Constipation: 15 Best Home RemediesWhile constipation isn’t something we normally talk about with our friends, it is something we all face at some point in our lives and is something that is really quite common. This digestive problem, which causes extreme difficulty in passing your stools, is uncomfortable and often embarrassing. No one wants to talk about how they haven’t pooped in four days, but constipation is truly nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about.

Our bodies are designed to eliminate waste on a regular basis (1-3 times a day) and when we get backed up life tends to become pretty uncomfortable. Having problems pooping is no laughing matter, and can actually really put a damper on your days. Some of the most common causes of constipation include:

• Poor Diet
• Insufficient Water Intake
• Lack of Exercise
• Stress
• Certain Medications
• Irregular Elimination Habits
• Excessive Use of Laxatives

If you’re experiencing constipation, there’s no need to go out and try the latest laxative to get things moving through your body. There are plenty of natural remedies you can take that will help ease constipation and get you back to your “regular schedule.” Next time your bowel movements need a little help to get moving, try some of the following home remedies to keep your pipes clean.

15 Home Remedies for Constipation

1. Warm Water and Lemon

There’s a reason so many people start their day with warm water and lemon. Not only does it balance out the natural pH levels of your body, but also acts as an excellent natural stimulant for your digestive tract. The citric acid in the lemon acts to aid in cases of constipation by flushing out nasty toxins and other undigested material that’s become stuck on the walls of your colon. The water added to the lemon is just what your body needs to keep everything running smoothly and help your body with its natural elimination process.

This could be one of the simplest ways to get your daily bowel movement on. Simply squeeze the juice from one lemon into a cup and add hot water. Sipping this will help loosen things up and when drunk daily can ease constipation for good.

2. Focus on Fiber

You’ve probably heard how eating a natural diet full of fiber-rich foods is one of the best ways to keep your pipes clean. It turns out, this is true. Fiber is a substance contained in specific foods that acts like a sponge. It draws water from its surroundings, causing it to swell. In turn this softens and adds bulk to your stool, helping to pass it easily right out of your digestive tract. There’s a catch, however. Some kinds of fiber can cause constipation, so it’s really important that you also drink a ton of water when your focus is on fiber. Fiber-rich foods that will help with constipation include:
• Beans
• Broccoli
• Berries
• Apricots
• Nuts
• Pears, Plums, and Apples
The next time you’re stopped up, try snacking on any of these foods while sipping on a tall glass of water. Try adding some lemon to this water for that much more effect. Adding these foods to part of your regular diet will also do wonders to keep constipation at bay.

3. Benefits of Baking Soda

Baking soda is king when it comes to natural home remedies. For constipation, baking soda can’t be beat. Baking soda is great for tummy issues in general and has long been used as a natural remedy to get rid of an upset stomach. It works so well because it’s a bicarbonate, something that urges air out of your body in one way or another. This means that if you need to get things moving through your digestive tract, baking soda is one way to help things along. All that you need is a teaspoon of baking soda and ¼ cup water. Drink it quick (this seems to help for some reason) and you’ll quickly feel things in your body start to move again.

4. Drink Dandelion Tea

It may be time to rethink the way you see these “noxious weeds” that have a tendency to invade your yard. Dandelions are actually one of the best natural detoxifiers for the body and are an excellent liver support. They also just so happen to be a gentle, natural laxative and are great for helping to move things right along in the digestive tract. Dandelion tea is an excellent choice for those who become stopped up due to excessively bad eating habits. Processed foods stand no chance against dandelion tea! Get them moving out of your body easily with this home remedy that’s about as natural as it gets.

If you can’t find dandelion tea at your local store, making your own is easy and will quickly do the trick. All you need is 2-3 teaspoons of dried dandelion leaves and a cup of hot water. Put the dandelion leaves in a cup and pour hot water over them. Let this steep for about ten minutes, strain and drink at least three times a day to get things moving the natural way.

5. Get Your Good Bacteria

You by now hopefully know just how important it is to get good bacteria into your diet. Giving our bodies the good bacteria they need, in the form of probiotics, is one of the best ways to keep your gut healthy and your digestive tract running smoothly. Introducing healthy bacteria to your gut every day will not only prevent constipation, but also lessen its severity when it does occur. Probiotics can be easily attained from eating a cup of plain, whole-fat yogurt each day. If you can’t stomach the thought of eating yogurt, there are a vast array of probiotic supplements that are available at most health food stores and pharmacies.

6. Epsom Salts to Empty Out

We all know how amazing an Epsom salts bath is to draw toxins out of the body and soothe tired muscles. It also works wonders when taken internally and is an awesome way to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms of constipation. All you need to do to bring on a bowel movement is add 2 teaspoons Epsom salts to one cup of water or fruit juice, and drink it all down.

  2. Ken you should know that going that long without a bowel movement can harm your body. You need to get an enema and take that fast. If that doesn't work you need to see a doctor about this. I'm not sure I understood everything but it sounds like pain medicine is causing you to be constipated, they have two new drugs for that. Being constipated because of Narcotics is a whole different ballgame. They now have 2 brand new prescriptions on the market that are for people who are constipated because of narcotics. Go see your doctor. One of the medicines name is movantik, the other medicine is called relistor these two are for people who are constipated because of pain medicine only.
