Normally we associate grey hair with a sign of old age, but currently it is also quite common that young and healthy people deal with strands of white hair. Find out how to prevent this problem and how to solve it with natural solutions.
Understand Your White Hair
Before you study the tips how to prevent and how to deal with white hair, first try to learn the causes. The first thing you need to be aware of is that there is no specific age at which you should start going grey.
Some people die without a single white hair on their head while others notice their first white hairs when they are teenagers. However, the most to blame is probably genetics so if your parents started going grey at an early age, there is a high risk that the same will happen to you.
Your race also plays a role when it comes to going grey. The majority of white people notice their first white hairs by the age of 35, Asians by the age of 40 and black people by their mid-forties.
A common belief is that stress causes white hairs at the young age. However, no scientific studies have proved that’s true so far. Stress of course might have negative influence on your health, but when it comes to hair, it might be the reason for hair loss rather than going grey.
The reason why we start going grey is because at some point the color-producing cells in our hair stop producing Melanin, which is a pigment responsible for giving color to our hair. However, there is a study that has shown that the building up of hydrogen peroxide around the hair follicles may bleach your hair color as a result of oxidative stress.
Very rarely, but it happens that the reason why a young person starts to turn white lies in some autoimmune or genetic disease. Some conditions that are connected with going white include anemia, vitiligo, which is a thyroid disorder, and problems with the pituitary gland.
However, these diseases can cause also other symptoms so consult your doctor if your hair is going white at the young age and you also suffer from some other worrying signs.
How to Prevent White Hair
If you want to have hair in a deep natural color, without any white strands or maybe you just noticed the first signs of going white, there are still some measures which you can take in order to prevent the problem.
The first thing you need to take care of is your diet. It must be hair-healthy as a balanced diet plays a crucial role in the condition of your hair. If you give your body all the vitamins and minerals that your hair likes, it will be strong for longer.
Our hair is made of protein so you need to include in your diet a lot of lean protein too. Apart from that, eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Hydration is also a key to success so drink at least eight glasses of water every day.
Make sure that your diet is rich in products that contain a lot of vitamin B12 and the mineral zinc. If you feel that you aren’t getting enough of it, you can try to supplement them. Other important ingredients for beautiful hair are vitamins A, C, and E as well as minerals such as copper, iron, and folic acid.
Eat plenty of cucumbers, oats and almonds as they are a natural source of biotin, known also as vitamin H, which is responsible for healthy, naturally-colored hair.
Apart from a healthy diet reconsider also the hair products you use on a daily basis. Always read the labels as if cosmetics you use are poor quality, they probably contain a high amount of chemicals such as sulfates, phosphates, chlorine, or ammonia.
Chemicals may dry out our hair and weaken its roots, which leads to white hair. The best for your hair will be products made from natural ingredients.
Head massages are also important if you want to prevent white hair. Do them regularly and you will stimulate your blood flow to the scalp and that will have a positive effect on your hair growth.
A head massage will be even more remedial if you do it with the use of beneficial oils such as almond or coconut oil. If you follow such treatments regularly you won’t be bothered with white hairs, but your hair will be smooth and shiny too.
It might sound surprising, but if you are a smoker, quit this nasty habit as quickly as it’s possible. Studies have proved that people who smoke are four times more likely to have white or grey hairs than their non-smoking friends. People who smoke often have dull hair which is more likely to fall out.
