You keep scratching your head and you avoid wearing black. Sounds familiar? If your answer to this question is ‘yes’, you probably deal with the problem of dandruff.
Dandruff is not easy to get rid of as it’s often chronic and once it’s finally eliminated, it likes to return. What’s worse, all those ‘wonderful’ dandruff shampoos often don’t work as they should. Fortunately, there are some natural cures for this problem, which will bring you some relief.
Get to Know Your Enemy – What is Dandruff
Dandruff, also known as scurf or Pityriasis complex is probably the most common condition of scalp in the world. There are many myths concerning dandruff and its causes. People believe that oily and dry scalps, dirtiness, stress, or even cold weather might be the reasons for dandruff.
All of them, however, are not truth as the main cause of dandruff is Malassezia. It’s a yeast-like fungus, which feeds of the oils released by your hair follicles. When it produces in small amounts, it’s just a normal part of a healthy scalp. The problem starts when it grows too much.
This is when the scalp gets irritated and it tries to eliminate the fungus itself by shedding more skin cells, which results in white flakes on our head and shoulders.
There are some factors which may worsen the problem. One of them is a dry environment, which leads to the excessive production of sebum. When there is too much sebum produced, the pores get clogged and microbes are attracted. Sensitive, dry skin, a poor diet, and not shampooing enough might boost the dandruff too.
